Konstantinos D. Kakavelakis studied Piano, Music
Theory, Byzantine Music,
Composition at the Hellenic Conservatory of Athens,
Greece, under the supervision of Yannis A.
Papaioannou and Ida Rosenkranz Margariti.
Seminars on Music Composition and Contemporary Techniques by Theodore
Antoniou.
In
1982 he settled in Germany in order to continue his studies in Composition,
Musical
Electronic Applications, and Historical Musicology with subsidiary subjects in Byzantinology, Philosophy,
and Communication Research at the Conservatory of Cologne
(Bojidar Dimov)
and the University of Bonn under
Martin Zenck, Erich Trapp, J.Simon und W. Hess. In
1990 completed his studies in the field composition,
at the Robert Schumann Music Academy in Düsseldorf under Dimitri
Terzakis and Guenther
Becker.
Kakavelakis continued intensive studies in the area of Historical
Musicology, with emphasis on the German Modernism,
and Philosophy of Music, at the University of Hamburg under Constantin Floros, Peter
Petersen and Christos Axelos.
He lives between
Athens and Hamburg
Participation in advanced Seminars under
Iannis Xenakis in 1985 at Delphi and Luigi Nono.
Free
Research studies at NMSU in USA. 1993 and 1995.
Member
of Music Research
Center IFM of Guerino
Mazzola, affiliated with University of Zuerich,
for ten years 1994-2004.
Member
of GEMA.
Several of his compositions were performed in
the West German Radio WDR, the Music Academy of Cologne, and
the Department of Musicology at the Cologne University.
The Boston Group ALEA and other orchestras in Greece performed
several of his compositions in
Greece.
